"Emoji" is the Japanese term for the picture characters or emoticons used in Japanese wireless messages and webpages.

S60 3rdED and 5thED OS support Picograph API. But this API is used only in Japanese firms.
The Emoji characters are colored bmp images, some of which are animated on S60.

Emoji is allocated unicode from U+E001 to U+E53E of Private Use Area (PUA).

I extracted the files related to Emoji from Japanese firm, and succeeded in making Emoji function with many models of other firms.
This tutorial explains how to install & use Emoji on your S60 3rdED FP1,FP2 and 5thED hacked phone.

[size=150]2. How to install[/size]
Install JapaneseEmoji.sis and reboot (or restart).
This sis needs full capability sign. You have to use Leftup-sign or Installserver_mod.
(*) Uninstall : Run AppsManager and remove "Japanese Emoji". Restart quickly.
Your phone will hang up if you leave it as it is.

[size=150]3. Adjust your font for Emoji[/size]
You can already use Emoji. But your phone will not be able to display Emoji rightly.

It is the reason that your font has not suited Emoji.
Almost of your fonts are empty within the range from U+E001 to U+E53E. That' OK.
But Emoji needs the same width as "Em Size" of the font within this range.
In Nokia standard fonts, the value of "Em Size" is 2048.
You need to adjust your font for Emoji by using a font editor (ex. fontforge).
I give sample fonts-sets which are adjusted for Emoji.

Copy them to e: or f:\resource\fonts\ and rename to your system fonts, and reboot.
You can delete them by renaming directory name (ex. fonts -> fonts1) or by using "Mass storage" mode.

If your fonts have some glyphs within the range from U+E001 to U+E53E, Emoji will be displayed on top of the glyphs.

[size=150]4. How to input Emoji[/size]
In input mode, you can get "Select symbol" dialog by one key. Try to press the same key once again.
You'll look "Select pictograph" dialog on your display.

[size=150]5. How to release input limitation of Emoji[/size]
You can input Emoji in SMS, MMS, Notes usually. That's all？
Emoji can be displayed in Calender, Phonebook, Bookmark, Filemanager, etc.
For example, you can display Emoji in your schedule on the idle screen or your communications logs.

But the Emoji input is limited.
Therefore, I make a PyS60 script for releasing input limitation of Emoji.
(1) Need PyS60 & SyUpack. Download and install them.

(2) Copy z:\sys\bin\avkonfep.dll to c: root directry.
(3) Run SyUpack and Upack c:\avkonfep.dll. (SyUpack makes c:\upack_avkonfep.dll.)
(4) Copy AnywhereEmojiS60.py to c:\Python or e:\Python.
Run Python, >option >Run script >AnywhereEmojiS60.py.

Start modifying avkonfep.dll to input Emoji anywhere ...

Reboot & confirm to be able to input Emoji anywhere.
(5) Reboot or Restart. (You can delete c:\upack_avkonfep.dll & c:\avkonfep.dll.)
(*) Uninstall : Delete c:\sys\bin\avkonfep.dll & c:\resource\plugins\avkonfep.rsc.

If you cannot use SyUpack well, I made the Python script on PC.
Petran.exe in SDK can decompress E32Image files on PC.

You can input Emoji in your SMS, MMS, but I don't know you can send it.
Because I don't know that your wireless carrier supports unicode characters of PUA.
Of course, it is necessary to install Emoji to the cell phone of the receiving side.
The standard Email client cannot send Emoji unicode.
+MIDP
Most native apps cannot display Emoji. They don't support Pictograph API of S60.
But MIDP on S60 supports Pictograph API. Therefore, java apps can display Emoji.
For example, twibble which is twitter client of java, can display Emoji on TL of twitter.

[size=150]7. Known issue[/size]
+In 5thED and 3rdED FP2 models newer than E75, the internet browser drops down when it displays Emoji.
The webpages using Emoji are only in Japanese cell phone sites. I think it is no problem in your use.
You can test by displaying SBEmojiTEST.xhtml file on your browser. (ex. file///e:/Others/SBEmojiTEST.xhtml)

+The models of S60 3rdED no mark (ex. N73) cannot use Emoji by this mod.
Unfortunately Nokia was withdrawn from Japanese market in November, 2008.
After that, the Japanese specification of S60 don't have been tested, I guess.
There is a possibility that some problems happen in newer models & firms.
